ESG and climate change are dominating discussions for pension scheme trustees, and regulation is steering schemes to consider how to embed ESG into the investment strategy. We wanted to understand how trustees really felt about incorporating these risk areas into their investment decision making.
As a result, XPS has collated the views of over 200 trustees and pension professionals on the extent and means by which ESG and sustainability should feature in their pension schemes’ investment strategies.
The results of the survey indicate a significant shift in mindset from trustees, who demonstrate increasing focus on considering ESG and climate change risks within their investments. But critically there is a strong sense that current investment strategies do not reflect the trustees’ preferred ESG approach in general.
The survey underlines the importance of taking time to consider trustees’ own priorities and preferred approach in relation to ESG and climate change within the schemes.
